Rainbow trout - Oostvoorne

Flyfishing

Fly fishing in the Oostvoorne Lake is very interesting beacuse fish generally swim right under the surface chasing for food. In terms of equipement, you will generally need a floating line 6, dry flies or non weighted nymphs, waders or a float-tube. As for the best fishing spots, explore shallows and dikes.

This very rich salty biotope contains small bairfish (herrings, sticklebacks, gobies), a great variety of sealive (prawns, gammarus), landinsects (bibio, ants) and aquatic insects (buzzers) which make fly fishing all the more interesting.

As for rods, we would recommend a 6 wt. rod (10 ft), with a soft tip. And in order to increase chances to catch a beautiful rainbow trout in the Salt Lake, we recommend very long leaders, like 7m (or even more)!

The Oostvoorne seasons - from April until May, you may witness the fall of bibio marci (bibio) bibinidae (gnat) or Coléo (beetle), that allows to fish with dry flies. May is a good month for fishing with buzzers and freshwater sow-bugs.

During the period which generally begins in June, the fishing can be very productive with imitation of Nereids. During the months of July and August fishing is closed on the whole lake, due to warming waters.

Fishing reopens in September until late October. In November the fishing season is closed again due to restocking of the lake. Imitations that work throughout the year are (mini-)sculpins.

Casting & Spinning

For those interested in spinning, lures must be equipped with a simple hook. Spinning can be very rewarding and productive in the Oostvoorne Salt Lake; trophy fish might very well be right under your lure, especially when they are hunting behind herring schools!
